2011-2012 Team Officers

Allen Granzberg, a Junior in Davenport College, is the captain of the Yale Ballroom Dance Team. Allen is excited to be captain for the second consecutive year and hopes to continue to improve the competitiveness and unity of the team. Allen's favorite dance is by far the Brazilian Samba (Caroline is a champion of the dance, ask her if you want to take lessons), but also really enjoys the Viennese Waltz as well as the Cha-Cha. If you have ANY (and that means ANY!) ideas or questions about the team, please contact Allen and he will try to make them happen! Outside of Ballroom, Allen likes watching Law and Order: SVU and hanging out. |

Katherine is a senior (yikes!!) in Timothy Dwight. After serving as the Business Manager last year, she is so incredibly excited to be this year's Vice Captain. All board for team-unity and a wonderful year in club lessons!! While she's definitely a Latin girl, there is a still soft spot in her heart for foxtrot and Viennese waltz. She just loves dancing in general, and would dance forever if her pre-med and biomedical engineering classes aren't swallowing her life. She thinks most things are funny, so please feel free to make her laugh!! |

Margot Cullen, co-Newbie Captain for the YBDT, is a junior in Morse College majoring in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. Hailing from the home of the Packers, Green Bay, Wisconsin she is a cheesehead through and through. While she came to Yale with no ballroom experience, she figure skated for 12 years and is an internationally ranked ice-dancer. While she finds latin dancing to be extremely fun, her true joy in ballroom is standard dancing! She enjoys Disney movies, playing cards, watching way too much hulu, and, of course, the ballroom team!! |

Quickstep!
Kyle van Leer is a junior in Morse College with a major in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. He has been on the ballroom dance team since his freshman year (with Margot!) and has always been a standard boy. That said, he still loves to heat it up with latin dances from time to time. Of the ten international styles, his favorite to dance are the foxtrot and the waltz. In addition to dancing, Kyle is the head of Yale Children's Theater. He is so excited to teach the Newbies this year with Margot and hopes to bring the YBDT to a whole new level! |
Caroline Chang is an English major in Morse. After serving the team as Newbie Captain and Vice Captain for the past two years, she is thrilled to be Treasurer and looks forward to keeping things runnning smoothly. She's probably more of a Latin girl than a Standard girl, but she's been known to enjoy all four dance categories. Caroline joined the ballroom team because she loved the movie Dirty Dancing Havana Nights, but she has stayed because she has found joy and a great family of dancers. Two years ago she would have picked Jive as her favorite dance, but now she must admit her affinity for Brazilian Samba and free-form Paso Doble. |
Nnamdi Iregbulem is a Junior in Davenport College, majoring in Economics. Although having experience in other styles of dancing before arriving at Yale, Nnamdi never imagined he would end up on the Yale Ballroom Dance Team, but he has had a great time so far. This year he will be acting as the Business/PR Manager for the team and hopes to use his position to further cement the Ballroom team's status as a well-respected student dance group. In addition to Ballroom, Nnamdi works as a Student Tech, is Vice President of Society Electronica, and is on the Finance Team of the Yale Undergraduate Law Review. |

Connie is a sophomore in Ezra Stiles college from sunny California. She is a prospective Political Science major with the interest of going to law school after her undergraduate education. She loves traveling, making lists, decorating her room, and ballroom dancing. She especially likes the dances in the American Smooth category. Aside from ballroom dancing, she also has a weakness for buying headbands and cooing over cute animals. |

Kavita Kapadia is a junior in Davenport College majoring in Biology with the Neurobiology track. She is pre-med and wants to be a neurosurgeon in the future. She also enjoys art history and trips to the museum. Things she likes to do in her spare time aside from dancing include reading, baking, watching TV/movies, listening to music, traveling, taking long walks, and spending time with her friends. Her favorite Ballroom dance is the Samba and she has a weakness for anything sweet! |
Natalie is a sophomore in Pierson College and is very excited to be the team's artistic director this year. After having danced ballet for many years, she was anxious to try other forms of dance in college, so she decided to give ballroom a try and she loved it! Although she doesn't have a favorite ballroom dance, she enjoys all latin dances. When she isn't dancing, Natalie likes cooking, watching foreign films, and spending time with her friends. She is also interested in majoring in chemistry and hopes to go to medical school. |

Jive, Samba, Tango and V. Waltz
Christopher Logan is a sophomore in Jonathan Edwards college. He is a Mathematics and Linguistics double major who loves to learn about other countries through their language and the culture it invariably includes. His current interest is Korea (K-pop ftw). His favorite dances are Jive, Samba, Tango, and (even though he can barely do it without falling) Viennese Waltz. Normally a latin dancer by choice, he tends to cringe when it comes time to compete in Standard. But practice makes perfect (or bruised) so he's still working on it! In his free time (which doesn't actually exist because he's on 3 dance teams and has a double major) he likes to play frisbee (SO MUCH FRISBEE), listen to music (again, K-pop), and hang out with friends. He's kind of a spazzoid, but you get used to it pretty quickly. |
Cyndi Chen, 2013, is a Cognitive Science major in Saybrook College. She likes dancing in grocery stores, dancing in the rain, dancing on the metro, and sauteeing onions-- all while wearing heels, of course. She can also be seen playing basketball, hockey, soccer, frisbee, and touch football. Again, all while wearing ballroom heels. As a veteran competition coordinator, Cyndi hopes to keep the Yale Ballroom Dance Competition on its current path of growth and success. And her favorite dance is the samba. |

Cha-cha and Samba
Maggie Green currently serves as the leader of the Rebel Alliance, and though she stole the plans for the Galactic Empire's Death Star, her ship has been captured by Imperial forces under the command of the evil Darth Vader. With the help of humans Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, a wookie named Chewbacca, and the Force, she was rescued moments before execution. After a long battle between the Rebels and the Empire, Vader's ship was sent spinning off into space and the Death Star was destroyed. Oh wait, that was the plot of the first Star Wars movie. Maggie Green, JE'14, is so excited to be co-piloting this year's Yale Competition, which she hopes will be out of this world. While she decides between majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Anthropology, Maggie's future career is a little nebulous. Aside from that, Maggie's love of ballroom dancing (especially the Latin and Rhythm dances) is only comparable to her crippling fears of aliens, robots, and movie theaters. |
Kimee Moore is a sophomore in Morse College. She is majoring in Physics but loves the arts, especially dance. Her favorite dance is the Samba, and she hopes to spread her enthusiasm for dance with all of you. She is currently doing her best to make this year's Yale Comp fantastic as the Competition Co-Coordinator. |

Mack is a junior in Berkeley College and is excited to be webmaster for the Yale ballroom team. When he joined the team last year, he didn't know the difference between swing and Viennese waltz - his two favorite dances just one year later. Besides dancing, Mack enjoys biking, playing tennis, geocaching, and listening to country music. Needless to say, ballroom dancing to country music is one of his favorite activities. Feel free to email him with any comments or questions about the website or ballroom! |
